The person behind Lothurr
About me
Hi, I’m Herald. Lothurr is my company: a sole proprietorship in Rijnsburg, the Netherlands, that advises on IT and builds websites, web applications and software.
My approach
How I work
I have worked in IT for over 20 years. Two things I care about most: data that is in order, because decisions are only as good as the data under them, and agile working, because small steps that work beat a big plan that arrives late.
One person, one line
I’m the person you talk to, the person who builds, and the person who answers your email. No sales desk, no account manager, no handover halfway through.
Small and clear
I keep the scope small and clear and write in plain language, because software only helps when you understand what you are getting.
Products of my own
Next to customer work I run digital products of my own. That keeps me close to what it takes to keep software running for real people, every day.
The name
Why “Lothurr”
In the Völuspá, the best-known poem of the Old Norse Edda, the first two humans, Askr and Embla, lie on the shore with nothing yet: no breath, no spirit, no warmth, no colour.
Three gods arrive and each gives a gift. Óðinn gives breath. Hœnir gives spirit. And Lóðurr gives lá ok litu góða: warmth, living blood and a good colour. That is the moment a figure becomes a person.
lá ok litu góða
That third gift is what I try to put into my work. I like to inspire: to be the spark that life and colour follow from. A website or a piece of software should feel warm, work well and be alive to the people who use it.
The same goes for working with people. I like to join a team or an organisation, listen first, and bring warmth, fire and inspiration, so people get moving themselves and not just receive a product.
Curious what that looks like for your organisation or project? Get in touch and tell me what you want to bring to life.
